Dr Ruppert Regional Planning Letter to Citizens and City Council of Ios

Dear Citizens and Island city council members of Ios,
On short notice I received information on the “Proposal for the formulation of a municipal spatial organisation plan and drafting of comments”.
As frequent guest I have had the luck to spend many times in Ios since my childhood in the 1990. During my stays especially in the south of Ios I have sadly recognized since about 2010 destruction of important parts of the rich and beautiful countryside, beaches and ecosystems in that area. Thus, I take serious concern and interest in supporting plans for a truly sustainable regional planning, management and development. Such has to safeguard the social and ecological resources and respect natural capacity and limits. Furthermore, it has to assure respect of common goods, community rules and lawful behaviour of the actors and stakeholders.
Please consider to take special precaution in the planning, in the light of serious wrongdoing and damage produced by some touristic activities during recent years. These will have to be stopped, before a sustainable and socially and ecologically just development becomes possible.
Let me point out to you attention and planning process the following observations at the south part of Ios:
